Re: Thomas Cook Airlines renews fleet (incl. in Belgium)

For next season TCW will operate only 6 A320's, all 6 will be replaced, all will have the new winglets (sharklets). Only the first 2 will arrive with the old wingtipfences and will be retrofitted with sharklets later on.

Re: Qantas grounds A380 fleet after incident over Indonesia

Crew told they were lucky the accident happened during training, thanks to all knowledge onboard (with 3 full instructors) they managed to get down 'safely'. They all agreed it would have not been possible with a standard crew of 2. I wonder where you got this information from because it is NOT wha...

It is not uncommon, the SR71 Blackbird had it as well to counter one engine high thrust, especially for single engine operations with afterburner at low speed. Watch from 0:36 till 1:06 http://youtu.be/aV82gbriMc8

Re: A320 engine wouldn't start --> external truck used?

If one engine fails, you still have electrical power from the other one. If no more electrical from the second engine, there is also the RAT (Ram Air Turbine) that can provide either electrical or pneumatic power if needed and in the worst case you can fly for about 20min on batteries. So enough red...

Re: Ryanair want to remove the Co-Pilot

I personally hate it when pilots wander in the passenger section. They should be in the cockpit. The co-pilot can also have a stroke or heart attack... Well, I challenge you: try to sit in your chair for 10 to 12 hrs, not just once, but every day you go to the office (and yes that is what we do on ...

Re: Cargo plane reportedly crashed in Dubai

I have several reports on my FB of former Sabena colleagues living in the Dubai Silicon Oasis compound. It passed overhead the compound at about 200 to 300ft and crashed south of Emirates Road, just after the military camp. Earlier reports of a crash on Emirates road are apparently not correct. They...

Re: Air France flight AFR447 Airbus A332 missing

Or is the A330/340 electrical system different then A320? Yes it is totally different: if you are used to an Emergency Elec in the A320 (I find this one of the most difficult failures, a real pain in the b*tt), you will find it quit easy in the A330. The A330 is a modern version of the A320 with a ...

Re: new A319 for SN

When an aircraft is de-registered in Belgium, the Belgian CAA will keep the registration reserved for 10 years. After that, it may be assigned to another aircraft. This means: If it is re-registered within the 10 year period, it will automatically receive the same registration. After the 10 year per...

Re: Video of Burning Cirrus Under Parachute After Mid-Air

You hit a glider... The Cirrus did not hit a glider, he hit the towrope of the Piper Pawnee towplane. The Pawnee went out of control and crashed immediately after the collision. The Cirrus came down on its parachute as we all could see. The pilot of the glider was able to release seconds before the...

Re: ADS-B receiver

The answer to the legal issue was also my answer, although maybe a little bit hidden: some ADS-B receivers like FLARM are EASA certified. No aircraft in Europe would receive its EASA CofA if it was equipped with a something that is not EASA approved. So, yes, ADS-B's are legal in Belgium if EASA cer...

Re: ADS-B receiver

An ADS-B receiver has nothing to do with listening to ATC, an ADS-B receiver sometimes is referred to as a “poor man’s TCAS”. Despite the VFR-principle "see and avoid" about 20 collisions take place each year in the General Aviation. Although ADS-B is not yet commonly used in general aviat...

Re: Colgan Air Q400, N200WQ crash (Continental Airlines flight)

First I would like to comment on some of the assumptions made on the tone of the pilot’s voice like “you can clearly hear some distress in her voice” or “the fact that she is half-crying”. At no point whatsoever I have heard any distress in her voice, no sign of any tears to me. The only thing you w...

Just to give info on some interesting issues. Their AHM is a patchwork of different manuals (boeing, other airlines, own input,....) Well, that's the way a start-up is done. It will take years before these are finalized. Best example is Thomas Cook, at the start-up their books were a combination of ...
