Re: Anomalies in BRU-ANR-CRL-LGG-OST in 2020
This reminds me strongly of the Kalitta B747 crash in 2008. They also tried to abort at a speed above v1, but were less fortunate... If memory serves, one of the contributing factors there was that one of the pilots had already done a rejected take off with a speed greater than v1, so he was more in...

Re: Lufthansa in 2020
Air France now experiences why Carsten Spohr (CEO Lufthansa) opposes political influence in airline management and operations. France guarantees a bank loan to Air France, but in exchange France demands that Air France realizes a 50% CO² cut on domestic flights by 2024. Example: France demands that...

Re: Cruise speed vs top of descent
How many track miles from the boundary to the ILS25L for a usual approach into BRU? I'd say 60 nm if you get the ARVOL-BUN shortcut and can intercept at 10nm. Probably around 80 to 90 nm if you have to follow the STAR and intercept at around 20 nm. On the 737 you can only select a heading on the au...

Re: Cruise speed vs top of descent
Thanks to everybody for replying, very interesting reading. Arriving via ARVOL 25L in Brussels means FL240 at the boundary (which is too low) and you will have to maintain FL80 until you are abeam with RWY25R north of Brussels as departing traffic is cleared to FL60/FL70 below you. You become then t...

Re: Cruise speed vs top of descent
Of course the most efficient (excluding operational or time costs, but fuel wise) is to reduce the speed already just prior descent and have a continious descend to avoid a level segment at lower altitude. But of course in busy airspace or airports this is most of the time not feasible I assume ;) ...

Re: Cruise speed vs top of descent
Thanks for the reply, I knew that a lower speed implied a lower rate of descent, but I didn't know that that was not compensated by the lower speed...
So basically, if I want to sequence using speed control instead of vectoring, I need to first descend with a good rate and then reduce the speed.

Cruise speed vs top of descent
Question for the pilots on the forum:
Say you're cruising at FL240 at a IAS of 290-310 kts. If you're asked by ATC to reduce to 250kts (hypothetically ), how does this affect your top of descent, if at all?

Re: Air traffic control service skeyes to strike in the evenings and nights of 12 & 13 March
The other problem is that Canac's personnel is foreseen for sectors that never open. How often are all the sectors opened at ACC? NEVER. Why no accept to reduce reasonably the amount of Atcos present per shift? How many controllers are present per shift? Staffing is foreseen for 2 sectors open, not...

Re: Air traffic control service skeyes to strike in the evenings and nights of 12 & 13 March
Thank you, atcofi for stepping in and setting some things straight (and taking the time to do that). What you've said is absolutely correct. I'll just add some thoughts of my own: I am one if those currently in training in canac: the rostering problems are real, very far from solved and very likely ...

Re: Brussels region noise regulation
Personally, I think that's a great idea, if we can use the 07's in parallel because using 01 an 07R together reduces capacity significantly. Yes indeed, would be much better for capacity! Could be a nice compromise to win Brussels over... I think the only way to win Brussels over would be to use 25...

Re: 2018 Liège Airport (LGG/EBLG) latest news
Apparently, that's not entirely accurate: 22L was indeed CATIII, but in 2017 a new ILS was installed (or heavy maintenance done on the existing one), causing 22L to be downgraded to CAT I. Only now has it been upgraded again to CATIII.The main runway, 22L, was already CAT III for several years.
