Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024
SN has still only 10 long haul planes, the same as the beginning. Where do you see significant growth? Where do you see much higher number of pax? Where do you see the higher % of market growth at BRU? Star was not the only alliance. Qualiflyer was another one. So good that the high flyers of it en...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024
So let't try to see the things from the groups prospective as well. LH took over Austrian in 2008/9. Brussels came half a decade later, including decisions taken as LH was a minority shareholder, on the last meters. As any fleet/financial decision needs time to be absorbed, SN needs to wait longer. ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2024
classy and fresh at the same time: Depressing, sad and dull are the most heard comments on different forums. The actual uniform is quite nice and fashionable, one would think there are more important tasks, at SN, to spend money and resources on. Branding is as well a part of the overall product, c...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Austrian moved to a pretty streamlined fleet over one and a half decades. F70/F100 -> replaced by E195 Q400 - exit , replaced as capacity by 6xA320 in VIE, no more small regional routes from tiny airports A319 - out of the fleet, instead becoming some A320NEO's 321 - due to replacement somewhere aro...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Don't you confuse internal analysis, thoughts etc with strategy? The communicated strategy so far for SN is to move to a simplified all 320 size fleet. Look at your larger peers in Austria how they stopped serving all marginal needs - Q400 is out, A319 is out, 321 - who knows how it would be replace...

The main reason for allocating brand new aircraft to the brands that actually can't afford them is as decribed the cost of opportunity - taxes at certain major airports.

I don't know if someone has access to WirtschaftsWoche ? According to WirtschaftsWoche, Dorothea Von Boxberg, currently CEO of Brussels Airlines, is one of the two candidates to succeed current CEO Carsten Spohr. It was mentioned too yesterday in an article on LinkedIn. In case that she would becom...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023
Thus it's quite hard for Brussels Airlines to built a big hub. It's not 'hard' for Brussels Airlines. They are not even trying . And with 'they' I mean SN and above all its owner LH. LH wants to keep BRU and SN small by sucking all long-haul traffic out of BRU to their hubs FRA and MUC. Today alone...

Re: Brussels Airport compared to other European airports
The former PIS government sees Poland as center for everything.
Reality is that Russia is isolating itself from Europe so they may have a much less optimistic outlook.

Re: Brussels Airport compared to other European airports
As usual, in such evolution the trend is your friend. The reality of the Eastern European Middle Class is that their disposable income for leisure and travel is higher than the one of many Western Europeans. Some key elements here: - Poland has due to the country size and its role as a hub for many ...

Paint Jobs are done when needed.
And the Eurowings livery may be also a reminder of the local brand strategy: budget P2P airline with a little bit of long haut.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023
And what is the current projection of roll over from 319 to 320 NEO? Or is there a mix with newer 320CEO's planned?
Around 2030 the current A320 fleet would start to be due for replacement.
Any B737 MAX rumors?

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023
Well, this exactly the trap between perception at local level and market reality. For a Netherlands prospective this is a home territory + leisure destination, for all the rest of Europe the A,B,C s are pure leisure. For leisure purposes the group has already Edelweiss and Discover, both linked to t...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023
What a lack of ambition from SN and/or LH. BRU and SN could easily take away market-share and PAX from AMS and CDG. And how would they accomplish that easily? Leisure travelers are first and foremost price sensitive. Business travelers focus on frequencies, preferably daily if not more often than t...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023
SN is a privately owned company. It's role is to make money.
And it makes no sense to burn money in a fight with AF if you can make easier money on other ways.
BRU won't be a primary hub, so this is the reality.
First "must do" is to learn to be consistently profitable at a decent level.

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023
You have to see the whole network. Within the LH Group, BRU is the hub serving sub Saharan Africa. ITA would join gradually the Group and Star Alliance and would have approx 25 long haul aircraft plus 321LR. From a group prospective makes simply no sense to get additional competition between the bra...

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
There are no 320orders yet, just options. The 220 are replacing a bunch of ageing 319 - there are 13 at LH mainline plus 7 at Cityline all well above 25y and some at Eurowings are leased and could be replaced by others from the mainline. 737 may be a logic move for Austrian - the need to replace 16x...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2023
So one can see clearly in this situation why the company is doing better with mature technology.
On long haul it simply flies emerging economies and places with limited infrastructure and proximity of spare parts, technology know how etc.
"New" is not always a best fit.

Re: Brussels Airlines' fleet renewal
Just wondering why SN get the -251 series of engines and all the others LH/LX/OS the -271 series of engines on the NEO Simply....At very large volumes the economies of scale become minimal thus some considerations of risk mitigation prevail. On group level there are approx 420 Airbus 320 family air...
