Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
What I will write here is an own thought. Not what we know from our industry or during negotiations. So this time is my own vision on the situation. As we can think there is a possibility in a fleet reduction for SN. But as the Lufthansa group always was preaching, it would be possible in shifting ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
Consolidated loss around 130 million, debt 500 million, you can call it negative perception or irrelevant, as much as you want but it’s black-and-white or better red-and-white. One of my relatives is a senior underwriter at an important trade insurance company, since 2015 they refuse to insure agai...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
All those very long stories...boring to read...bottom line: before corona SN was not able to make profit, even not with an occupancy on nearly all flight of +90%. This is a very important fact for the decisions to come soon... No big stories with hundreds of figures...just ordinary farmers-wisdom g...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
... Just that there is a need of responsibility from both sides. All group companies are doing lay offs - Swiss is preparing for something like 1.500 to 2.000 people, according to Swiss media - and this is coming by an already agreed aid scheme, high profitability in the past etc. It is simple indu...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
LH wants free money, as simple as that, but you can’t have your cake and eat it too. That's again a claim without substance. You can see it in the structures of all deals LH is making: - they want a subsidy part in the way any company forced to let people stay home during the past months can legall...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
LGW saturated? Are you aware that BA is reducing massively the Gatwick activity and closing the long haul from there? Can you finally realize that all players from the industry are in the same boat? https://www.theguardian.com/business/2020/apr/30/british-airways-to-cut-gatwick-operation-and-lay-off...

@Nordikcam Not at all dead. Just that there is a need of responsibility from both sides. Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
If they write off there investment and leave Brussels Airlines no problem the state will nationalise the company and look for another partner. I'm sure it will be easy to find a new partner with a state guaranty of 290 million ( or a participation)and workers ready to sacrifice part of their salary...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
I am just following Sphrs' speech at the shareholder meeting. The industry will be smaller. The Lufthansa group will be smaller. So if somebody is asking about no jobs losses under circumstances that Brussels was anyhow a candidate to be restructured and now the whole industry is planning with 20% l...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
Tomorrow is shareholder meeting. Traditionally one day before the board meets and often investments or important decisions are announced - in the past it was typically fleet related. Now it could be last minutes adjustments to tomorrow's agenda and recommendations eg for the Swiss package etc. http...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
There is also another point - fairly large airports are centers offering low wage employees a chance in the labor market. Security agents, catering in terminals, check in agents, rampees, drivers of various cars/trucks/buses serving the airports internal infrastructure are not the typical jobs targe...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
FWIW, the 'bottomless pit' is actually quite lucrative for the Belgian government! You forget that all those employees pay income tax but use a lot of government resources as well (social benefits, healthcare, infrastructure etc.) If you include income tax payed by employees to conclude a company i...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
The government is playing it hard with LH. They want a business plan for the period 2020-2025 with significant investments into SN and they want a vote on the board, or no money. Makes me a bit more confident our tax money wont be dumped in a bottomless pit For reference: Germany wants 25% of Lufth...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
What is great about the letter? Spohr is begging for money at the same time as demanding that SN remains in the hands of LH. This is ridiculous, the government should let LH save SN on its own, and if they don't, let it go insolvent and then nationalise it and rebuild it into a thriving carrier lik...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
Well, the situation is a little bit more complex. From some political voices the credits should have a 9% interest rate, what is far above market rate and the state should have 25% shares and some local voices want Lufthansa to be active in Berlin ( where they were not allowed to fly till 1990, thus...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
Let's come back to the facts - SN pre Covid wass only 3% of LH's passsenger traffic and unable to make money. LH's supreme interest in SN was not SN itself but the fact of being able to control the non-presence of other operators at BRU Of course. And a management performing sufficiently that from ...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
A blocking minority in Brussels Airlines for €290m maybe, but in Lufthansa, he is delusional. Even if the price was right (and it is very far from), the German government would never allow it. They'd rather increase their own cash infusion by €290m to keep Belgium out A blocking minority for 290 mi...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
And if the ACMI-contract of SN to deliver services to EW in DUS is profitable for SN: why not... Then again, all depends on what LH has in mind for EW post-Covid. LH is in need of money itself and might reduce EW ops to save as much as possible. Who even says EW will be flying long haul once this m...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2020
The remaining 332 were targeted to leave the fleet 2021 and 2022. The 4 333 flying for Eurowings might move back to "Ocean", so no more SN competence in the leisure long haul. The remaining 8 333 are anyhow Lufthansa Assets leased further to Brussels. The major questionmark on the short ha...
