Brussels Airlines welcomes new Chicago service of future partner United Airlines

Brussels Airlines future partner United Airlines announced some hours ago the launch of a new transatlantic Chicago O’Hare – Brussels service next spring. Thanks to this new route Brussels Airlines and United Airlines will be able to offer their customers convenient connections between dozens of important city pairs.

United Airlines will inaugurate a new daily service between Chicago O’Hare and Brussels Airport on March 28. By doing so, United Airlines will connect one of their major hubs in the US with the home base of Brussels Airlines. Both airlines will work together after Brussels Airlines joins the Star Alliance, of which United is a founding member.

This new Chicago service is not only excellent news for customers who want to travel between the European Capital and Chicago. Thanks to the convenient timing, dozens of onward connections to domestic destinations in the US, cities in Europe and Africa are possible.

We welcome the decision of United Airlines to launch this new transatlantic service to Chicago”, says Brussels Airlines co-Managing Director Bernard Gustin. “We are very much looking forward to our partnership with United Airlines who operates from Brussels already a daily flight to Washington Dulles. More news about our cooperation will follow soon. This excellent news is another example of the many benefits we will be able to offer our passengers once we will join the Star Alliance in December.”

United Airlines: Brussels-Chicago non-stop

On March 28, United Airlines starts direct daily flight operations between Brussels and Chicago. This new initiative is United Airlines' second daily transatlantic destination from Brussels, adding to the daily Brussels-Washington route that exists since many years. Since the start of the current winter season, United Airlines already offers a daily Brussels-London-Chicago flight. This flight with a stopover in London Heathrow will be replaced by a nonstop service as from the summer season.

United Airlines is a member of Star Alliance. Brussels Airport will become a member of this alliance on December 9. This will allow both airlines to offer a seamless service on their respective North American and European/African networks.

Recently Air Canada, also a member of Star Alliance announced the introduction of direct daily flights between Brussels and Montreal during the next summer season. This daily Brussels-Montreal also connects perfectly to Brussels Airlines hub operation at Brussels Airport.

This news is applauded by Brussels Airport. "The extra daily flight tot Chicago will be welcome to business passengers and holiday travelers alike", said Jos Stroobants, Director Aviation Development. "As from next summer a record number of 13 direct transatlantic services will be offered by a choice of foreign carriers: Air Canada (Montreal), Air Transat (Montreal), American Airlines (Chicago, New York JFK), Continental Airlines (Newark), Delta Air Lines (Atlanta, New York JFK), Jet Airways (New York JFK, Newark, Toronto), United Airlines (Chicago, Washington) and US Airways (Philadelphia). All North American based airlines who offer intercontinental operations, offer direct services at Brussels Airport, an almost unique situation in Europe.
