I hope they go for oneworld but this will only be possible if CX give them their blessing.
Re: EVA Air to join alliance: Star or oneworld?
If they can join Star, they will join Star. Some time ago the CEO of Eva Air even said they applied for Star Alliance membership, but were waiting for Star Alliance approval.
They codeshare with Air China, ANA, Asiana, CO, US, and the future member Shenzhen Airlines. For Oneworld they only codeshare with American and Qantas and AA can easilly be replaced as they already codeshare with CO and US.
I'm quite sure that IF they are allowed to join Star they will go for Star.

Not sure that anyone will be breaking their balls to get them really. Do they fly many routes to China?

Should give you an idea.
They also work closely together with Air China and Shenzhen Airlines, especially Air China is very important in China.

Yep healthy connections to China, no doubt about that.
I'm still not convinced they would add a lot of value to Oneworld, I can't see much European or African traffic transiting to North Asia via Taipei and they have very few flights to Australia so there's not much in it for Qantas. Cathay, JAL and the soon to be admitted Malaysian would probably view them more as a competitor than an ally. Perhaps AA and LAN may benefit marginally from their presence. Of course what Oneworld really needs is a member in China itself.
Star Alliance may be more interested but again what can they offer that Air China, Thai, Singapore, ANA and Asiana don't?
The optimal size of an alliance is an interesting topic. At what point do new members cannabilise more business from existing business than what they add?
And will we ever see a fourth Global Airline alliance emerge? Any airline who is not already in one of the exisiting three must be wondering if they have missed the boat.

Star it will be!
EVA Air set to become full Star Alliance member in June
EVA Air (BR) will officially join Star Alliance as its 27th member on June 18, 2013, the carrier has stated. The announcement comes after the Taiwanese carrier signed an agreement with the Star Alliance in Taipei last year, paving the way for its full membership later this year. EVA is Taiwan's second biggest carrier and has a global network that stretches from Asia to Europe, North America and Oceania, linking more than 60 cities. Its larger competitor, China Airlines (CI), joined Skyteam in September 2011 becoming its 15th member.

As Eva Air is about to join Star Alliance in less than 10 days (June 18th), their first Star Alliance logo-jet has been painted:
