Airlines announce more than 240,000 take-offs and landings

This coming Sunday marks the start of the new summer timetable at Munich Airport. For the new 31-week timetable period starting on March 25, 2012, airlines have booked slots for a total of 240,000 take-offs and landings. Travelers in Munich can choose from well over 200 destinations all over the world. In this new summer timetable period, scheduled services will be available to 18 German cities, 158 continental destinations and 40 long-haul destinations.

For the start of the summer season, Lufthansa will expand its range of holiday destinations offered from Munich: Every Saturday it will depart from the Bavarian capital to the port city of Bastia on Corsica, Jersey in the Channel Islands, Montpellier on the French Mediterranean coast, the Black Sea resort of Odessa and Pula, situated on the southern tip of the Istrian peninsula in Croatia. In addition, Lufthansa is expanding its services to Chisinau in Moldova to two daily flights, Copenhagen (four times a day), Luxembourg (18 weekly departures), Tallinn (twice a day) and Venice (now with 34 flights per week).

Lufthansa's Star Alliance partner Air China is adding two new weekly departures to its long-haul service to Beijing, and now flies daily to the Chinese capital. Luxair, another Lufthansa partner, will be offering four daily flights to Luxembourg.

With the start of the new summer timetable, the Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling will start flying three times a day to the Catalonian metropolis of Barcelona with modern Airbus A320 aircraft. A new arrival in Munich is the Italian airline Air One, which will depart for Milan Malpensa airport 12 times a week. Icelandair is adding a third weekly flight to Reykjavik to its schedule. The airline airBaltic is adding five more weekly flights to its Riga service, bringing the total to 12 flights per week. SUN-Air will be offering 11 weekly departures to the Danish city of Billund in the future. Ponta Delgada, the capital of the Azores, will also be available to travelers departing from Munich: SATA Air Acores will be flying to the Portuguese Atlantic island every Saturday, stopping en route in Porto.

Sports enthusiasts attending the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London will have an excellent range of flights available from Munich: The UK capital is still the number one foreign destination served from Munich Airport, with more than 4,100 departures during the summer season. Berlin, with nearly 4,800 departures, remains the top domestic route, ahead of Hamburg and Düsseldorf. The 2012 summer timetable period will end on October 27.
