A Cargo Air Lines Boeing 747-200 freighter, registration 4X-ICO performing freight flight 5C-902 from Liege (Belgium) to Tel Aviv (Israel), was climbing out of Liege's runway 05R at around 03:20L (01:20Z) when the crew reported an engine fire indication, shut the engine down, activated the fire suppression system and levelled off at 8000 feet. The aircraft returned to Liege's runway 23L for a safe landing about 40 minutes after departure.

The airport reported the aircraft served the route Liege-New York, which would be flight 5C-981 (radar data however show the aircraft on flight 5C-902 after arriving in Liege as flight 5C-901 from Tel Aviv). The crew received an engine fire indication and activated the fire suppression system. The aircraft landed safely around 03:55L (01:55Z).

Seems Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium is having some problems today:

FQ7604 to Palma (Mallorca) : delayed 07h50 -> 16h45
FQ7286 to Hurghada/Sharm El Sheik : delayed 14h25 -> 18h10
FQ7244 to Las Palmas : delayed 15h35 -> 19h00
FQ7652 to to Tenerife : delayed 15h45 -> 19h15

Only the incoming FQ from Heraklion is substantially delayed (14h40 -> 19h20). Is there some operational problem?

Probably the result of the heavy delays this morning which were caused by the complete breakdown of the check-in system at Aviapartner desks.

Thomas Cook FQ3277 from Marrakech and Agadir Al Massira :

this flight was expected in BRU on Wednesday, 16h40. Around 20h on Wednesday, the flight was announced as delayed till Thursday 11h30. The flight is now announced as delayed till 19h30. Is it really till Thursday evening, or is it a computer or input error?

Today's SN359 Brussels-Kinshasa-Luanda :

10h45 ETD
11h18 departed
11h50 landing back in BRU - says BrusselsAirport.be

has it something to do with OO-SFV - the sand machine?

missed approach

I saw on the Casper tracking website that SN358 did a "go-around" this morning. Started to accelerate again when it was as about 1700 ft.

Dear All,

I wonder why the RWY 25L at BRU is often closed or not used the sunday morning?
Does anyone know why?

Thanks,
Sergioboeing

AF5244 ANR - MAN served by an Avro RJ 85. Someone knows the reason for this upgrade ?

Stood watching the 29 threshold at EBAW/ANR this evening, but saw only VLM take off (OO-VLS) and OO-ASL coming in (the latter's crew having their hands full with the wind.). The Fokker used the A2 taxiway then backtracked all along the runway, is the Bravo taxiway temp. closed for WIP or whatever?

Ryanair B738 originating from Charleroi had incident at Riga on Aug 22nd 2011: unsafe gear

A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DWT performing flight FR-8085 from Brussels Charleroi (Belgium) to Riga (Latvia), was on approach to Riga when the crew reported a gear unsafe indication, performed a low approach which confirmed one of the main gear struts was not down. The aircraft climbed back to 6000 feet and entered a holding to trouble shoot the problem. About 45 minutes after aborting the first approach the crew managed to lower and lock all gear and landed safely on Riga's runway 18.

Riga Airport reported that there were already considerations to have the aircraft ditch in the Gulf of Riga just north of the aerodrome.

Latvia's Directorate General of Civil Aviation confirmed the aircraft had a problem with the landing gear. The aircraft subsequently entered a holding area to work the problem, then performed another overflight (according to radar data at 2500 feet MSL) for another visual check by experts from the ground which confirmed all gear had reached the fully down position and commenced a safe landing immediately thereafter.
