Perhaps already mentioned:

Starting this Summer OLT is flying - next to Bremen - to Leipzig-Halle.

(German Press release)

Die neue Strecke wird zunächst dreimal wöchentlich einmal pro Tag bedient.

Flugplan:

Leipzig/Halle – Brüssel 18.00 Uhr – 19.30 Uhr OL 671

Brüssel – Leipzig/Halle 07.30 Uhr – 09.00 Uhr OL 670

Freitag:

Leipzig/Halle – Brüssel 17.00 Uhr – 18.30 Uhr OL 671

This is great news that we can fly directly towards Leipzig from Brussels.
There is quite some business between Belgium and former South East Germany, especially in the automotive/steel/railway/optical industry.
Leipzig and Dresden had to be reached by 2 flights, or we had to drive to Düsseldorf.
Otherwise it was a drive of 900 km...

But... now come the negative points:
  • 3 flights a week is not enough for business travel. Staying over 1 night is not a big disaster. But 2 nights make it unattractive.
And...a Fairchild? Good gracious, I hope that OLT has enough vomit bags on board
price: I made a simulation which would cost me 577.70 €. Sorry: for that money I prefer to fly Easyjet to Berlin and rent a car. Will cost me 300 euro less and brings me back 1 day earlier.
But I wish them succes.

Yes, they have :D

But do not expect to be able to take always all your luggage with you. They already have massive problems with this on their other routes (including Bremen-Brussels). Experienced it several times that they told people their luggage would be sent with the next plane because otherwise the plane would be overloaded  and / or there was no space left in the luggage compartment

Then nobody will suggest using THIS plane on African operations... (sorry, couldn't resist)

Seriously, though, I seem to remember this service was tried a couple of years ago, a twice daily Beechcraft 1900 if memory serves?

Jan , you are a naughty person. You make it even worse than me after my remark this morning to use a Falcon. :)

Ukraine International Airlines announced today that it shall temporarily, as from June 25, 2010, suspend its direct operation between Brussels and Kiev. This decision has been taken due decreasing demand on the route and for UIA to further rationalize its network. Ukraine International Airlines shall continue to offer convenient daily connections to Kiev and Odessa from Brussels via Vienna with its partners Austrian Airlines and Brussels Airlines. Two daily non-stop services between Amsterdam and Kiev are operated in cooperation with KLM. Ukraine International Airlines also operate daily Kiev flights from most major European airports.

On the first pages of this topic several people are talking about 777s that would come to Brussels this summer. However, on the official Brussels Airport timetables I can't find a single B777 flight, nearly all medium / long range flights seem to be A330/757/767's. And during weekends (when I'm often watching them) I can't remember having seen one 777 this year. Do I have any chance of spotting 777s this summer? Although I'm quite new in aviation town, I really love this bird... :)

No 777 this summer. Past summer we had CO, AA, UA 772's but not now. Starting this winter ('10/'11) UA will upgrade its IAD-BRU flights again to B772. But that's the only one for the moment I think.

9W was only a few weeks in winter '09/'10, because of high demand during that period. But as it was such a short period I didn't count it.

I am not really surprised about it after the departure of BMI.
My connection flights with BMI were resheduled over BA.
I presume I was not the only one...
Maybe this late decision comes after a long period of unsteady bookings for this summer period.
But no B747 please as with the A380 saga from CDG by AF.

sdbelgium wrote:Yes, very strange indeed... Nothing to be found on Amadeus or Brussels Airport website. But then, not one of the XL flights are loaded in Amadeus. Nevertheless: the schedule:

SE 413 SVQ 1430 BRU 1710 7

On other dates nothing
Some more news about this. As mentioned by Brubiac before, flights are operating on Thursdays iso Sundays and this as from 08JUL10 (tomorrow). Flights originate in CDG and XL can sell tickets CDG-SVQ and BRU-SVQ, but not on the CDG-BRU leg. Also, the return flight will not pass via BRU, but will make a stopover in SXB. Routing is CDG-BRU-SVQ-SXB-CDG.

Opposed to the afore mentioned information, flights will operate for longer than just the month of July. They run every Thursday until 21OCT10, with two exceptions on 05AUG10 and 14OCT10 (no flights on these dates).

I don't know if it has already been mentoned here, but LH seems to have quietly abandoned the Brussels-Nuremberg route.

This route had been launched by a company previously known as Nürnberger Flugdienst, which had an excellent service. The company later merged into Lufthansa CityLine.
