Re: Qantas grounds A380 fleet after incident over Indonesia
The Chairman of Qantas Alan Joyce declared that the Qantas A380 VH-OQA damaged in Singapore will be repaired and will fly again before the end of the year. The repairs will cost 100 million dollars, to be paid by Rolls Royce's insurance.
The aircraft is still parked in Singapore.

A story in Flight Global discusses this. See: http://www.flightglobal.com/articles/20 ... -year.html
Wow! $100 million an 9-10 months to repair! Damage must have been far more than it originally appeared to be.

Don't know what you've seen and read, but I think it was clear from the beginning the damage was extensive (and repairs expensive). I estimated from the beginning repairing costs were over $50m, at least. I'm not surprised to see it being around $100m in the end.
Crew told they were lucky the accident happened during training, thanks to all knowledge onboard (with 3 full instructors) they managed to get down 'safely'. They all agreed it would have not been possible with a standard crew of 2.

Tell this to the most popular airline who wants to fly with 1 pilot and in case of an emergency, get a stewardess away from selling food and drinks to land the airplane .DeltaWiskey wrote: Crew told they were lucky the accident happened during training, thanks to all knowledge onboard (with 3 full instructors) they managed to get down 'safely'. I wonder where you got this information from because it is NOT what the crew said! Where you ventilating your own opinion as the truth? Read the interview of Senior Check Captain David Evans who was on the jump seat: http://www.aerosocietychannel.com/aeros ... e-cockpit/DeltaWiskey wrote:Crew told they were lucky the accident happened during training, thanks to all knowledge onboard (with 3 full instructors) they managed to get down 'safely'. I read it in a magazine, but thanks to correct me.

Very interesting interview.
And I presume open minded. He frankly says that with a Boeing, it would have been much more difficult.

There, that's enough plus for another 999 of such incidents (which, of course, I hope will never happen).

Qantas agreed a $100 million A380 engine settlement with Rolls-Royce:
