747 engine fire in EBLG ?

Post by OO-PAL »

Media report a cargo 747 safely landing in EBLG with an engine fire. Any further news ? Could it be another Connie incident ?

The Red plan (reinforcement of firefighters) was raised on the night of Wednesday to Thursday at the Liège-Bierset airport after the pilot of a Boeing 747 cargo plane reported to the control tower before landing one of the engines was on fire. Airport firefighters immediately went on the runway, with reinforcements from Liège. One of the engines of the aircraft was on fire but the flames have been extinguished quickly and the fire is not extended. There is no victim and the Red plan was lifted on the night. (LEE)

All Flemish media report the same incident, without details however.

I find it quite strange that the name of the airline and the exact time of the incident are withhold.

just one of the many reports in the Flemish press:

I know they all use Belga as source. But I find it strange that LGG-airport hasn't given the identity of the airline to Belga. If a Brussels based airline has a landing with a minor flap problem, we get all details, including flight number. Landing with an engine on fire seems to be much more serious.

Unless they mistakenly took a 'flame-out' for a fire again (cfr. SAS in Amsterdam some days ago)... But nevertheless, it is indeed very strange they don't give more details. It'll come out sooner or later, though.

Edit: as expected
A Southern Air Boeing 747-200, registration N820SA performing freight flight 9S-9820 from Liege (Belgium) to Fort Dix,NJ (USA), was climbing through FL180 out of Liege when the crew reported they had shut down an engine due to a fire indication. The airplane returned to Liege for a safe landing on runway 23L about 20 minutes later. No trace of fire, heat or smoke was found by emergency services.

Bierset Airport reported there was no fire, just an indication.

The airplane was able to depart again about 5.5 hours after the return and is estimated to reach Fort Dix with a delay of 6.5 hours.

it's the job of the journalist. If they don't ask, they won't get.
and again, congratulation to belga journalist who again did a fantastic job : we now get a news to say that the plane didn't go on fire.

Now all details are in the news, but the name of the company is wrong (Souphon, WTF !). I'm not sure those people diserve the title of "jounalist". They are clowns.
