[irony=ON]
Don't waste your time, the culprits have been found. Those incompetent pilots are solely responsible for the accident. There is absolutely no need to conduct any proper investigation to shed light on any organisational, technical, authority oversight or human factors. It's just "pilot error" as usual. Please return to your normal activities and keep on pretending that everything is just fine. The show must go on!

How come such a seasoned journalist falls into such a trap? OK, I'm asking an question but I already know the answer. But still, it's amazing...

It was not a 727, but Gulfstream IV reg N2SA.airazurxtror wrote:According to

It wasn't a crash.
The aircraft didn't end up "in the Kulanga River".
It was a runway overshoot, after which the Gulfstream glided off an embarkment, causing rupture of the fuselarge just behind the cockpit. Both wings are still attached to the frame.

Re: President Kabila's senior adviser dies in plane crash
According to Colette Braeckman, reporter of "Le Soir", who is on site, the aircraft was from "Katanga Express". Nine survivors lie in the hospital at Bukavu - they will be transferred to South Africa as soon as possible.
The two pilots (South-African) were killed. It was allegedly their first landing at Bukavu. Witnesses say they landed much too far down the runway.

Plane was seen in Brussels on January 6th.
Re: President Kabila's senior adviser dies in plane crash
Deredactie.be and De Morgen also mention a/c type as a Boeing 727, however the plane in the footage looks like a Gulfstream jet. Googling the reg (N2SA) results in a/c type being noted as Gulfstream IV
edit: this photo (source: skynews.com.au) shows quite clearly it wasn't a 727 and also shows the thrust reverser being deployed on the right hand engine, supporting what passenger wrote a few posts above mine

That is not a 727 indeed.
.
.
The cockpit fueselage in the footage has eyebrows, contrary to gulfstream, or correct me if I'm wrong? Always beware of the press and wat they broadcast/claim, I guess, even if it's a quality newspaper.

Re: President Kabila's senior adviser dies in plane crash
the picture shown in the news report you posted looks like a Boeing nose indeed (could be 707, 727 or 737), but that does not look like runway overshoot damage like they say in the report.
edit: it appears the above clip used the wrong photo, that one was a 727 which crashed while trying to land in bad weather and not the a/c involved in this accident.

reaction on the picture:
1.The death of just some passengers and the pilots remembers me about the B737 crash at AMS by Turkish. They got smashed by their own wieght and seats. Horrible.
2. doesn't look like a B727 but more as a Gulfstream as reported already. Oh well, the media

One of the injured, Marcellin Cisambo, South-Kivu Governor, told the "Le Soir" reporter :
the last thing I have seen is Augustin Mwanke literally "flying" across the cabin to the front of the aircraft, having probably not fastened his seat belt (that passenger was killed, skull fractured).

Re: President Kabila's senior adviser dies in plane crash
Unfortunately it happens quite often on corporate jets (especially without a F/A but sometimes also with a F/A) that the boys and girls in the comfy leather seats in the back feel that they're the 'king of the parking' and don't need the seatbelt. Newton laws usually end their presumptuous assumptions.

Those sitting in the front (cabin/cockpit) took the hit:
Re: President Kabila's senior adviser dies in plane crash
Proving one again the safest place is the rear of an aircraft, which is why the flight recorders are located there.
Re: President Kabila's senior adviser dies in plane crash
The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has suspended the licenses of two aviation companies operating in the country after one of their planes crashed last week killing a top adviser to President Kabila and four others. Minister of Transport Joseph Martin Kitumba said in a statement released late Tuesday that the licenses of Air Katanga Express and Katanga Wings had been suspended as Congolese and American experts investigate the crash of the Gulfstream 3 jet.
The Katanga Express plane went down Sunday as it attempted to land at Bukavu airport in eastern Congo.
