AvGeek flight to BSL in SN A332: Unique opportunity

Post by sn26567 »

On 25 July 2013, Brussels Airlines will operate two flights by A330-200 from Basle to Brussels to bring fans to the Tomorrowland Festival. The positioning flights from Brussels to Basle are not available for sale, but Brussels Airlines has accepted to let a group of enthusiasts take these flights.

Cathay Belgium is not available for that date. I will thus organise this trip for those of you who are interested.

Here are the conditions:
  • Flights are normally not commercialized, thus travel conditions might be a little different
  • Please take note that during the flight, the inside of the aircraft will have to be prepared (music sound checks, put branded items on the seats, etc.)
  • Two flights are available:
    SN1751 BRU0450 – 0605BSL 332
    SN1763 BRU1050 – 1205BSL 332
To allow everybody to come to the airport at a reasonable time, we have selected the second one
  • Cost: 75 EUR all-in one-way
  • There are no return seats available on July 25th, all 4 flights are full. Thus you can try your luck with easyJet flight 1031 (dep. 15:10 arr. 16:20) or come back by train (dep. 16:21 arr. 22:41), or come back another day. The return must be organised by yourself.
  • You won’t be able to visit the Business Class cabin as it will be full with cameras & press
If you are interested, contact me by e-mail at sn26567@luchtzak.be and send me your last name, first name, Miles&More card, etc. before 1 July 2013.

Just another hint for the return – on July 25th there’s a Swiss flight operated by Helvetic (F100) from ZRH to BRU, leaving ZRH at 1815. And there are good fast trains from Basle to Zurich.

Hi,

Other, probably already known, solutions for the returnflight could be:
Easyjet to AMS , Easyjet/FR via STN to EIN , Easy via SXF returns, also GVA with train connections..

Curious to see how you returning home and like to read the involved TR !

Have fun !

Great job, sn26567 next JAF 787 ?

For those who are interested, there's an affordable return option by train...

Basel Bad - Köln HBF 1430-1905 EC 006 49 € (or 59 € in 1st Class)
Köln HBF - Brussels 1943-.... ICE 010 to Liege, then IC.... 19 €

Special thanks to my friend Holger (who will also join the trip) for finding this alternative :)

ICE 010 form Köln (Colgne) HBF continues all the way to Bruxelles Midi.
The 49€ + 19€ fare only is available if making this two separate bookings; a single ticket miraculously is much more expensive and only available in 1st Class for the said trains.
Train ticket from Basel (Basle) SBB station (= the swiss one) to Köln (Cologne) is an extra 10 €, but the bus ticket from BSL to downtown should be good to get all the way to Basal Bad Station on the other side of the river Rhine (the bus from the airport drops you at Basel SBB).

Btw, the 19€-fare from Cologne is valid to ALL stations in Belgium !

See you on that flight.

You're welcome.

Everyone of the 11 participants should now have received an e-mail with his/her e-ticket confirmation and itinerary. M&M card numbers have been introduced if available. Please advise if you have not received it.

Everyone should get his own boarding pass at the airport (not sure it will be available electronically, as the group booking reference is the same for everyone).

See you on 25 July and enjoy the trip. I will be at the Starbucks of the departure hall at 09:30.

The AvGeek flight to Basle is mentioned in the SN press release issued for Tomorrowland:

viewtopic.php?f=31&t=50841

"Because it is highly unusual that a long haul plane flies a European route, there was a big interest among aviation enthusiasts to experience this flight. Brussels Airlines gladly arranged for them to fly along towards Basle."

Hehe ... :)

I had to change my outbound travel and now will arrive on SN 2540 inbound from HAJ around 0800h, replacing my earlier train & hotel arrangements. Using a fictive return date in mid-September the overall fare was acceptable.

Just to confirm it's possible to check-in online, just did it myself.

See you tomorrow!

To the 11 AvGeeks flying to BSL on the special flight SN1763 by A330-200 (probably OO-SFU):

Don't forget to select your preferred seat and to print your boarding pass from the Brussels Airlines website (www.brusselsairlines.com). Alternatively, you can also get an SMS with your boarding pass on your smartphone if you prefer a paperless society.

I was surprised to read on my own boarding pass that the flight will be operated by Flybe... .

I will be from 09:30 at the Starbucks café in the departure hall and we will walk together to the gate. Boarding time is 10:00.

See you tomorrow!

Also on my BP. :o
Furthermore, from the seatmap shown during OLCI, we appear to get a -300 model for the flight.

Does that mean the aircraft will not have TML decals?

Can we expect a trip report btw? :)

I'll try to have one ready not too long after the trip (still have a backlog of the Azores ones... but the Avgeek will come first :) )
