Ditto here.

I will also answer a previous question regarding how a direct flight saves our company much more than the cost of the actual ticket.

Our company handles expensive, small but bulky, and highly fragile electronic equipment imported from Japan, some units costing several thousands of Euro's wholesale. We have tried all shipping methods and the only method that gave us an acceptable rate of successful transportation was as checked luggage with minimal handling.
Most of our units are packed to be oversize to avoid that they would be put on belt conveyors, but small enough to be accepted as hold luggage.

The rate of success through sea and air shipping was less than 10% despite overpacking, special care subscriptions and clear handling instructions. With postal services, the rate of success was literally 0%.
As excess luggage on direct flights, the rate of success has been 90% so far, but we were forced to use the direct flights into CDG to make it work... That brought additional headaches such as messy customs procedures, excessive levying of taxes (the customs there really take advantage of foreign companies) and additional logistics costs of picking them up there.

Indirect flights are not an option as we would have to pay oversize and overweight fees for the connecting flights separetely and the handling during the connection again increases the risk of damage. When part of a FFP program, the Japanese airlines also offer additional allowances that don't apply to their codeshare partners and by themselves compensate the price delta between a direct and connecting flight.
Shipping as art was also considered but the costs were too high relative to the value of the products.

FCL sea shipping was considered but there are not enough units per shipment to justify the costs (not so much the transport which is acceptable, but the handling on both ends is cost-prohibitive) and given how damaged our LCL shipments arrived, I doubt that the success rate will be high. In addition, the long waiting time would reduce flexibility and capital cost, as the demand is very random and unpredictable.

Most damage is not repairable and results in a write-off.

Hence, it's much cheaper to pay a little bit more for a direct flight and carry as much as we can as excess luggage. The ability to import them directly will also make life much easier on the administrative side.

Quite a premium heavy plane, downside is that the regular eco is true "cattle" with 17" wide seats and a pitch of 31" Premium Eco is a lot better with 38" pitch and 19" width

Timetable can still change, it still has to be agreed first. But this is how ANA would like to have it so it seems that they don't have direct interest in connections with Africa. Most of them will connect on intra-EU flights, or with final destination BRU.

Yes, it can happen. Ethiopian, Hainan Airlines have even much longer layover at BRU. Due to commercial and practical reasons it's more interesting to stay here at BRU for a while before they fly back.

A 5 hour layover for a long haul flight is not much. Moreover, it's a common schedule for Japanese airlines with a layover in Europe between 4 - 6 hours.

If we can choose between ANA or JAL, which one do you prefer and why?

In Y, definitely JAL which has still a 2-4-2 configuration, vs. the 3-3-3 of ANA.

Nice lobbying from the Belgian government, BRU and SN combined.
Shows you that when they work together, they can achieve much more than just low cost riff raff. ;)
More information on frequencies, schedule and SN code shares to come...
Puts this statement in a different spotlight ;)

Oh, cool.
If I am not mistaken, this Is roughly the schedule the Sabena flight used to fly on, but this time daily!!!

Seeing how premium heavy the plane is fitted out, I am sure they expect to make very good money with both point to point as well as regional connecting premium passengers at BRU, as Atlantis said they expect.
Will be interesting to see what kind of cooperation there will be amongst STAR partners, something both ANA as well as Tolipanabas hinted at, but as said, regardless all that this is exactly the type of flights BRU is in urgent need of as these passengers bring much more added value than all other kinds of passengers, albeing more numerous.

It also means another 787 for BRU!
Last week I was enjoying some spare time in the The Loft in the A terminal and I saw there were no less than 3 787s from 3 different companies parked next to each other at the B terminal: Quite a sight!

ANA has 2 versions of the 787 with 2-4-2 in Y, think those were the ones first delivered to them.

Let's go back in time, to 1972: the SN B707 was flying once a week via Anchorage with this quite different timetable:

Code: Select all

SN353 BRU1145 - 1000ANC1100 - 1345+1NRT
SN354 NRT2200 - 0940ANC1035 - 0640+1BRU
There were also two others weekly flights via ATH-BOM-BKK-MNL !

Indeed, but apparently it's the high-density configuration that will come to BRU :(

If you read Japanese... (but Google Translate can give you a very rough idea!)

Japanese media Nikkan reports ANA plans to codeshare with brussels airlines to Africa, possibly from early-2016 http://www.nikkan.co.jp/news/nkx1120150625aaaq.html

Source: Airline Route

That connection would include a night in a Brussels hotel, for sure!

A quick count shows that the timetable allows for roughly fifteen connections to/from other SN served European cities, which may not seem a lot, but

if this will indeed be the definitive configuration, ANA must be counting on a high number of high yield O&D pax.
