Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
Looked around on this forum but couldn't find anything about the present situation with runway 01/19.
Is there work in progress? When will it be open again?

Nothing like the AIP for solid information
AIP SUP wrote:
EBBR - Construction Works RWY 01/19
From 26 JUL 2016 to 25 SEP 2016 important construction works will take place at EBBR during the day and at night, seriously affecting ground and flight operations at the aerodrome. This AIP Supplement contains all differences from the facilities and procedures as published in the AIP section AD 2.EBBR, and this for the stages of the works as indicated. Where “NIL” is stated, the facilities and procedures published in the AIP apply. All times are in UTC.
Additional information and late changes to this SUP will be announced by NOTAM.
Operational information will be available on the ATIS.

Just to complete the above, Stage 3 starts this evening with little change from Stage 2 though.
Must have been challenging for the heavies to take off from 25R with reduced TORA these last days.

Don't forget that we had 07's in use the last couple of days. But indeed today the Hainan had to be told about the reduced TORA and had to offload (after some discussion )Homo Aeroportus wrote: Must have been challenging for the heavies to take off from 25R with reduced TORA these last days.

Currently (ATIS India, 18:00z) landing on RWY 07 RIGHT with take off on 07L.
Easterly winds used to dictate landing on left and TO on right, why the current config?
Any reason to make a VOR approach? Cavok tonight.
Thks

Because the VOR 07L is not allowed after sunset.

Yes VOR 07L, aligning initially on BUB then a visual to 07L at about 4DME, is HJ only.shockcooling wrote:Because the VOR 07L is not allowed after sunset.
After sunset landing on 07L is/used to be direct.
My question is : why landing on 07R
Thanks,

Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
After sunset the possible approaches for RWY 07L are visual or SRA (the PRNAV procedure used during the works on RWY 01 was revoked when the works ended).
This means vectoring for a visual on 07L is possible but experience has shown that pilots prefer (and request) the straight in VOR/DME procedure to RWY 07R.
Using both 07L and 07R simultaneously for landing is not allowed because the finals to the respective runways are converging.

This as a reminder that "parallel" runways 07L and 07R are not really parallel. But why are they not?EBBU wrote:Using both 07L and 07R simultaneously for landing is not allowed because the finals to the respective runways are converging.

Sometimes they use to land on the two runways simultaneously....EBBU wrote:After sunset the possible approaches for RWY 07L are visual or SRA (the PRNAV procedure used during the works on RWY 01 was revoked when the works ended).

Hasta la victoria siempre.
Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
I am really puzzled at how they decide to use 07L for landings, rather than 01.
Yesterday, during most of the day, 07L was used while the wind was 050 less than 8 knots (4 or 6).
Today the wind is 060 14knots which is a lot and runway 01 is used!
This does *not* make sense and I'd like to have your input.

Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
RWY 07s were in use this evening as from about 19:00lt.
I had already boarded when I copied the ATIS Golf switching directions and, with 130 at 09kts, had RWY 07L for Dep and 07R for ARR.
First time I took-off from 07L.
Is landing on RWY07R really efficient? Thinking in terms of RWY occupancy before vacating.
Why not the good 'ol Dep on 07R and Arr on 07L?
Greetings from BCN.

Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
The arrival procedure for 07L is an offset VOR/DME, with a last visual part. This is not available after sunset (07L has no approach lights).
There was a RNAV procedure published during the works on RWY 01/19 but it was withdrawn when the works were finished. This RNAV approach is a lot safer but arrivals approach over Brussels so it is not allowed as a normal procedure.
That is why after sunset RWY 07R is used with a straight in VOR/DME. And with a loss in capacity due to bad exit TWYs.

Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
Is it expensive to install landing lights? And an ILS...
Can't reopening P5 and V2 solve this problem?
Cheers,
Stij
Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
The cost is not the problem. Having those landing aids on that RWY would lead to an increased use of that RWY. Apparently this is politically unacceptable despite the added safety a proper landing aid would provide.EBBU wrote: ↑Today, 07:53

When there is an (north)easterly wind the first choice is RWY 01 for landings because that is equipped with proper landing aids. Only when the wind is (south)easterly and strong enough will 07L/R be used because the windcomponents will exceed the tolerance on RWY 01.
The biggest problem with the exit taxiways on 07R is their angle to the RWY. You basically have to turn back to exit

Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
Surely, if the cost of adding ILS and landing lights can be suffered, the cost of adding some exits must be negligible? But, when looking at https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=16/50.8936/4.4973 , I see there are already "turnouts" from runway 07R onto taxiways C1 and C2 and C3 and C4 and C5? Where's the problem?
Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
I'm not a pro but I understood: The turn is so sharp, aircraft have to do this very slow, thus vacating the runway late, thus reducing it's capacity...jan_olieslagers wrote: ↑23 Mar 2017, 17:40 Surely, if the cost of adding ILS and landing lights can be suffered, the cost of adding some exits must be negligible? Re: The one and only topic on which runway in use @EBBR
Yes, that might well be the case. Still, adding some "fast exit lanes" should not cost an arm and a leg.
