Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
The competition I am refering to is on the kgl-bru market. SN (as kl) has something to prove.
And, if they adopt the routing as I expect (ie : kgl-bru-lgw // lgw-bru-kgl), there is no reason they wouldn't be granted 5th freedom trafic rights both ways on the bru-lgw leg.
After roughly 2 yrs interruption it is a nice opportunity to restart le lgw route which I believe has a certain potential. SN could codeshare on the lgw segment if they want

Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
Hi
Anynone has infos about load factor between Brussels and Kigali ?
I read on route news, that between London & Kigali, load factor was 95%, in July 2017. Popular destinations are: Kigali, Harare, Johannesburg, Nairobi & Entebbe. I guess it was about the same for August. The traffic is mainly driven by Buisness pax and students (i think mainly Africans and probably British young people working for NGO) & then tourists.
Of course we have to see, how the route will work in low season and how is the yield

Thanks

Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
RwandAir plans to take another two A330s in 2018 (it currently flies two A330s), as it targets 20 aircraft by 2022 with just three types. Six Boeing aircraft and two CRJs are expected to exit the fleet, while Q400s are retained for domestic service.

Very poor. At the moment KGL-BRU around 5-10%. KGL-LGW around 15%. LF from BRU to KGL is between 0 and 3%.rwandan-flyer wrote: ↑17 Sep 2017, 08:22 Hi

Flights are in fact almost empty with none or very few passengers boarding in BRU.

The Rwandair flight will carry out the winter season the flight KGL BRU LGW and LGW BRU KGL on the return which will avoid problems of transit visa for the passengers going to Brussels at the moment.

Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
Thanks for the informations, guys.
It's interesting to see, that airline, seems to be more optimistic. In Route Online and Airliner World October issue, they said that in June load were low from Kigali to Gatwick, but improved from July. I had same infos from a RwandAir pilot:
""Makolo gives the Gatwick route as an example, naming six points, including Entebbe, Johannesburg, Harare and even Nairobi, where it is picking up transfer traffic to London. She says the route is attracting students flying to Europe plus business travellers and tourists to Rwanda and claims a 95 percent load factor for July."
http://www.routesonline.com/news/29/bre ... -strategy/
A Rwandan online info website, made an interview, in Kinyarwanda, few weeks ago and said that people should book in advance, for Christmas period, because flights will be full.
"After the Rwandan genocide, Brussels Airlines has benefited for many years a monopoly on connections Europe, Rwanda, with prices cheerfully exceeding 1,000 euros round trip from Brussels. In recent years, she must deal with fierce competitors, including KLM (via Amsterdam) and Turkish Airlines (via Istanbul), who perform much more attractive rates it difficult to follow"

I don't have any info, but KLM is carrying more pax & competition is stiff:And what about the load factor of Brussels Airlines on their flights to Kigali?

And by the same token, here is RwandAir's schedule for the winter season:

Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
I have only these, from EurostatsAnd what about the load factor of Brussels Airlines on their flights to Kigali?
Since 2011, first full year of KLM operations at Kigali, KLM is ahead Brussels Airlines. KLM started service to Kigali, from 31Oct10
In 2016: 145 754 pax for KLM, 57 067 for Brussels Airlines. It includes both point to point and connecting pax.
About RwandAir, in July, 2017 traffic was 2 990 pax (source UK CAA: http://www.caa.co.uk/Data-and-analysis/ ... data-2016/ ).
From August 2017, traffic between Belgium and Rwanda, will include both Brussels Airlines & RwandAir. It won't be possible to know the number of pax flying on each airlines

Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
Just discovered on Twitter:
@FlyRwandAir faces bankruptcy in spite of @RwandaGov help which exploses national budget. Why keeping such a company? Often less than 20 passengers!!!
OK, it's Twitter, but there might be some truth! Also the fares heavily undercut those of Brussels Airlines on BRU-KGL, thus I wouldn't be surprised after all.

RwandAir is evaluating the A321LR and the B737 MAX 7 to operate on European routes during off-peak seasons, replacing their A330s.

Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
If really indeed less than 20 pax, even an A321 might be overkill. Why not acquire a couple of Fokker F50's? There seem to be a few available on the market...

Re: RwandAir to fly to Brussels from July 2017
You have to wait for a little more time, before to see RwandAir A330Neo and A321LR at Brussels
RwandAir expansion put on hold until the new year
Rwanda’s national carrier RwandAir goes into the new year uncertain of when it will expand its fleet, after it announced yet another delay in getting new aircraft.
The airline started the year with plans to add two new A330-900 Neo, an Airbus A321LR and two new Boeing 737-Max aircraft to reinforce existing routes and operate new routes, but things did not go as planned.
