Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
NCE is not nice !
Just checking for a buddy the U2 flight to NCE.
I would have thought they have enough practice there but it looks like they are rehearsing for the strike that starts tomorrow.
Many flights diverted or simply cancelled this late afternoon.
Some diverting to MRS, TRN, MXP, ...

This U2 BRU-NCE went down to 1450 ft before being sent out.
Holding at 8000ft for 25 minutes then transiting to LFML at FL100 before a rather unconventional approach.
Departing BRU at 1525z, landing at MRS 1810. FT 2h45 min , twice longer than usual. I guess someone was smart in planning the fuel.

This rings a bell! As last year the country was already thinking about it! Braathens Regional Airlines has frozen the order for 10 brand new Embraer C Series and will continue to fly with the less environment friendly AVRO.Passenger wrote: ↑02 Apr 2018, 13:56 Sweden will introduce an aviation tax:

Braathens Regional Airlines (BRA), former Malmö Aviation has frozen the order for 10 C Series aircraft, Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet reported yesterday. https://www.aviation24.be/airlines/bra/b ... s-new-tax/
And IATA responded to an Inquiry on the proposed Swedish aviation passenger tax, warning that the tax would cost 7,500 jobs and negatively impact Sweden’s economic competitiveness. IATA also emphasised the Inquiry Committee’s own acknowledgement that the climate change impact of the tax would be negligible. https://www.aviation24.be/organisations/ ... agreement/
Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
Every now and then, every government dreams of an aviation tax to reduce the budget deficit. However, somewhere in an international Convention (think it's Chicago), there is an article that states that an aviation tax has to be linked to the direct costs that the flight causes. Example: a departure tax is only allowed when it's aimed to cover costs like the airport and its staff, security, ATC, fire brigade, access, ... The only exception is Russia, who is allowed to charge overflying rights because of the huge territory they have to cover.luchtzak wrote: ↑02 Apr 2018, 14:06This rings a bell! The bill will probably be accepted by the Swedish Parliament. But once the aviation industry goes into appeal, Sweden will have to withdraw the tax.

Eurocontrol is tweeting about a failure of the Enhanced Tactical Flow Management System. Contingency procedures are being put in place which will have the effect of reducing the capacity of the European network by approximately 10%. Further information will be provided as soon as possible.
The Enhanced Tactical Flow Management System (ETFMS) is used to compare traffic demand with the available capacity of a certain air traffic control (ATC) sector. It is a key enabler of the air traffic flow and capacity management (ATFCM) services during tactical operations (on the day of the flight) and pre-tactical operations (from 1 to 6 days before the flight is airborne).
The ETFMS system has two main functions:

The ETFMS system has two main functions:
- Calculation of traffic demand in every sector of the NM area of operations, using the flight plan information received from the aircraft operators (AOs) via the initial flight plan processing system (IFPS)
- Computer-assisted slot allocation (CASA) – a more complex calculation, slot allocation and distribution of the resulting lists to all parties involved
Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
Brussels Airport currently only accepts 10 take-offs per hour ...
Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
The issue with the ETFMS has been identified and work is progressing to recover the system, which is expected to occur late this evening. Aircraft operators are requested to refile any flight plans for flights not yet operated and that were originally filed before 10.26UTC

Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
Nobody else to comment on the delays today? Ok then
Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
The system was relaunched before 18:00 and expected to be fully operational by 20:00. Hence there should be no problem now. Except for those planes that have been delayed during the day and will need the night to recover a normal schedule

Many of us have hoped to get bumped up to business class but few of us have been as successful as the young author , 9 years old , of this touching letter :

MSP had to close for half a day because of 33 cm of snow.

Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
Just saw that "G11", one of the MD-900 heli of the FedPol Air Support Unit was out this morning but not for a typical "MoWa" mission.
Seems like they were tasked with protection (?) of some high brass on the way to BRU.

Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
@H.A.: can the police helo's be traced like any other plane, i.e. do they operate standard ADS-B out? From a security point of view, that makes me raise an eyebrow ...
And BTW what is MoWa operation?

New Belgian airline created by Philippe Bodson of ASL (Air Service Limburg - aslgroup.eu )
Google translate:
Air Charters Europe (ACE) is the name of a new airline that the Limburg entrepreneur Philippe Bodson launches from 15 May. With its own fleet, charter flights and exclusive group tours will be carried out.
The intention is that groups can charter an exclusive plane to any destination. Travel organizations can book the aircraft to offer trips for a select audience. The first aircraft of Air Charters Europe is an Embraer ERJ 135 Jet. It has been completely converted into a luxury version for transporting groups of up to 30 people.
Philippe Bodson (ASL Group) responds with this new offer to the demand from the market for charters for exclusive group travel. The new company will have Antwerp as its home base.

Re: Trivia 2018 (miscellaneous news)
It's not clear whether this new airline is or is not part of the ASL Group. Does anyone know more? In fact, I do not even know whether this ASL Group has anything to do with ASL Aviation of Ireland, the owner of ASL Airlines Belgium and many other European Airlines. Two groups having the same ASL name: rather confusing....Sai wrote: ↑28 Apr 2018, 21:29 New Belgian airline created by Philippe Bodson of ASL (Air Service Limburg - aslgroup.eu )
