Dutch slot coordinator excludes 24 airlines from flying to/from Amsterdam Schiphol

Post by Miqvell »

Ouch: Dutch slot coordinator confirms today to Luchtvaartnieuws that JetBlue will not receive slots at Schiphol for summer 2024. The list of allocated spaces will be announced on Thursday. In any case, the 24 airlines without historical rights which had requested slots for next summer will be excluded. (Brussels slots are also allocated today).

Reason: Split topic from BRU Summer 2024: news, new routes, airlines

The latest update is that 24 airlines are no longer welcome at AMS.

Exactly,
Non-historic airlines: all canceled
Historic airlines: all must reduce operations by 3.1%

On top of that, taxes at Schiphol will increase by 15% next year

Play? Norwegian ? Should not be a surprise as the Dutch government goal is to strengthen the position of KLM.

Not all, by number of flights KLM is, by far, the biggest looser.

Hmm; so reducing movements from 500k to 425k is strengthening the position of KLM to you?
These politicians don't have a clue of what they are doing. Not any better than Gilkinet in Belgium.

It has nothing to do if the politicians have a clue or not, it's a political decision to reduce the traffic I don't understand what so crazy with it?!
Hasta la victoria siempre.

Can you send a source (and link), because Amelia operates a PSO route for Air France to Strasbourg (no thing on ther website and social networks) and FlyBe ended flights few month ago.

Mark Harbers, the Dutch minister for Infrastructure, has just announced that he has put the shrink plan for AMS Schiphol Airport on hold.

Reason: official compaint by the USDOT, stating that it's an infract against the Open Skies agreement USA-NL, and by the European Commission, stating that a "balance approach" fails.

Official document Tweede Kamer - parliament (pdf), thus in Dutch only:

Once an exemplary country, Netherlands is now making Giant blunders and reaching political low levels that are even not imaginea le in Belgium. Elections are coming soon but little hope for improvement.

Not comparable to Belgium…???!??
Gilkinet & his other ecolo/groen friends are doing their best to destroy BRU (or all belgian airports, actually). And this with much, much less traffic than AMS.

Belgian has a central place in Europe and is pretty much nothing in the sky. That’s a direct result of our politics since the beginning of the end of Sabena.

^This. Instead of luring some of these airlines to BRU (or even CRL) with some profitable tax regimes... there is enough space @ BRU to take over these AMS flights. "Hey, let's generate jobs and profit by luring more airport traffic to Belgium". No, that would take work

But no, not even a movement. I have the impression that Gilkinet's dream is to destroy BRU airport , but I don't want to go into politics here

Schiphol works on a way to kick out JetBlue and Air India

Last year, AMS faced a staff shortage that caused chaos. KLM had to refuse connecting luggage on European flights while the airport limited flights because it could not handle the volume. In summer 2024, Schiphol could cite its staffing issues to justify a reduction in terminal capacity to restore some form of slots. It's speculated that carriers like JetBlue and Air India may not be able to operate. The DOT should fight against such a move.

JetBlue and Air India could become serious competitors to DL/KL/AF group.
To keep them out of AMS now is strategically important.
Both B6 and Air India are able to offer low fares and hurt DLetc. who want to keep their dominant positions.

Reducing the number of slots makes slots more expensive. That can help to keep other newcomers away.

Dutch are good at making such strategies.

You could also look at this "slot reductions" as :
"Reculer pour mieux Sauter"

Not sure it will work in this case.
US regulations are ultra-nationalistic and DL is not the only big airline there...

I think we can/should ignore an article written by a journalist abusing the war in Gaza to make their point in a slot allocation issue in AMS.

So no return from Air India to BRU for the moment...We will see what's happen with JetBlue.
