2 US spy planes crashed in Iran, very far from the borders.
why don't we hear a UN condemnation?

i don't get it, why are they still using u2s... these planes are so old. even older than the Sr-71 which is already just in mseums.. When you have sattelites so much powerfull, why do you need to spy with these very old planes ?

If you would read the article, you would know that these were in fact unmanned drones, not U2 aircraft.

And as to why they use the U2, apparently it still can do things that other systems can't do. Satellites have fixed (or at least hard to change) orbits and fly over very fast at set times.

Also keep in mind, the airplane itself is very old, but the equipment on board most certainly is NOT 1950s vintage.

Those very old planes are more effective spies than the modern satellites, partly because of the valid reasons given by earthman.

Note that the spy planes in the incident were unmanned drones.
