Can anyone identify this one?

Post by Robin_Bamps »

Hello everybody,

I drove to Eindhoven airport yesterday afternoon. And on my way back, I drove though Lommel. Suddenly, I saw 2 aircraft preserved on my right hand.

I could identify one: 4407, a MiG-21 from the Czech AF.

But I can't identify the type of the other aircraft. I only see the Royal Air Force logo under the wing.

Here is a (bad) picture (was made at 21:30LT in heavy rainshowers) :

Can anyone help me identifying the aircraft type?

Regards, Robin Bamps.

I think I've found the answer to my own question ...

comparing with the following image, it seems to be a Jet Provost.

... and now my thoughts are confirmed as I've found the following :

XN 512 Jet Provost T.3 => to 8435M ; preserved Lommel, Belgium

Problem solved

Considering the conditions it is an excellent pic of the JP - not sure that the colour scheme is too authentic though!! Can you tell me the location of the aircraft in Lommel as I have checked my records and I need both airframes.

I had a look at the pics you have taken with your new camera - some great shots and really nice to see some light aircraft as well as airliners (I know you take pics of them too, Bart) - especially like the shots at Zwartberg in the snow.

Hello Meerkat,

Sorry for my very, very late reply    I really lost it out of my eye.

I'm very happy you like my shots. As we are already three months further now, I have just over 400 shots online at Planepictures.net. My opinion about spotting and the aviation hobby is "Everything that flies is equal". That's why I also photograph the light aviation. Zwartberg is not so far away, and that's why I have the occasion to visit it from time to time.

The MiG-21 and the Jet Provost are located near the village of "Lommel-Kolonie". The Army Stock is located next to the N715 Hasselt-Eindhoven, at your right hand when coming from Eindhoven.

I hope you still read my late reply ... my apologyses once again !

Regards, Robin Bamps.

No problem, Robin.

When I'm next up in the Kempen I'll see if I can find the place - always worth a detour for a couple of new 'frames.

There were exceptions to the red & white scheme as can be seen here -
camo scheme
This was taken at Binbrook not far from where I lived in the 80's

Early in their life they wore this scheme -dayglo scheme

The JP was not the prettiest of birds but was to be seen everywhere!
