Blue1 fleet renewal - B717 to BRU?

Post by pijaleu »

Strange nobody mentioned this before, but according to luchtvaartnieuws.nl Blue1 is getting rid of their BAe's and will acquire as up to 20 Boeing 717s.
So in a while we'll see 717s at BRU too I guess.
Never thought there were still so many 717s fying.
Where will they come from?

Anyone info is wellcome.

Thanks,
Pijaleu

indeed a rather surprising choice ... must not be easy to buy "up to 20" of those aircraft second hand which should be in a more or less similar configuration (from a maintenance point of view). How many 717s have been built and how many are still flying in Europe? Have not seen one for quite some months now ...

156 airplanes (Boeing 717-200) were build from 1995 till 2006 (last one build in april 2006). About 140 are still in service.

9 of those should be in Spain (Spanair (4) & Quantum Air (5, 2 of those are stored))

No others 712's are flying in the EU...

Blue1 is close to it's first B717 delivery. The first aircraft (OH-BLM) is painted in Miami and should be deliverd very soon. I don't know when they operate the first B717 flight, but BRU will get it's first on 15 August I think.

The B717 also has the new colors of Blue1, every 717 will get a unique design.

OH-BLM was delivered on 15/05/2001 to AeBal as EC-HUZ and after that it operated for Quantum Air until it was stored in 11/2009.

Picture of the first 717 for Blue1 painted in new colors.

On this page you can see the different designs of the paint.

I like this new livery. The previous was too white (especially on the longer MD's).

Great idea to paint each aircraft in a different scheme, but still keeping the same appearance. It reminds the World Tails of British Airways, but in this case the tails were too different to keep a similar look. At Blue 1, the colours remain identical, only the design changes slightly from plane to plane. The final result is superb.

Sky Airways (an Antalya-based charter airline) has all their planes painted in the same livery but using a different color for each plane.

He is in Helsinki now. On this picture he has still the temporarily registration, but he should have the OH-BLM registration now.

And I say it again, I like this livery (and the fact that every 717 will have a slightly different design). The previous livery was too white on the longer MD90's and it wouldn't be nice on the 717's either. So Blue1 made a good choice.
