Gaddafi's personal A340 captured by rebels

Post by earthman »

Whoops, the colonel's private plane just changed owners...

A340-200 in VIP config, in special Afriqiyah livery.

I have no clue what is being said in the video, they are probably discussing the destinations for their soon-to-start new airline.

I hope they don't "vandalize" the 5A-ONE, it's a nice airplane. Where are the other Afriqiyah airplanes? I heard stories that when war broken out they were used to transport African mercenaries to Libya..

Let us hope that all settles down as soon as possible, that Afriquaya starts operations again and that within 5 years we can say "Afriquaya is a real competitor for Emirates on the African market" :|

More than Libya's national airline Libyan Arab Airlines, Afriqiyah is heavily linked to the inner circle of the Gaddafi regime itself, so I am not sure we'll see them resume their operations once the whole country is free and stable again and the No fly zone is lifted, although the concept of the airline may by taken over by another airline from Tripoli or elsewhere in North Africa of course...

"We took over the airport and this plane on the 22nd of August, 2011"

As for the subtitles in Arabic, it says "Zintan Military Freedom Fighters/Airplane of the Ousted Gaddafi in our hands"

That's a different one though. One of the regular A330s.

In case you're wondering, these burning aircraft were no longer covered by insurance... I guess "total loss" couldn't be a more appropriate way to describe these pieces of smoking rubble.
