DannyVDB wrote:Hi all,

In the monthly newsletter of BRU we can read:
"Jet Airways announced the closure of their daily JFK flight as from September. The route to Newark will continue and may see a further seat capacity expansion in the near future."

Anyone heard something on this recently? I thought they already operate the B777 again on this route (?). Would this eventually mean more frequencies?

If the above mentioned would be true, then there is also a bigger chance that they will stay in BRU, no? The reason might also be related to the fact that AA stops their JFK flight, so they can accommodate more European pax ...

Cheers,
Danny
Well i think they will operate the 77W on the EWR route shortly instaed of and extra frequency. Jet Airways now operates only the Mumbai-Brussels route with the 77W, 3 times a week on friday, saturday and sunday.

I just saw on A.net that Jet Airways is going to take delivery of A333, is it possible to see them in Brussels in a next future?

I was afraid that this will be happening.... Not a real surprise for me! Since the JFK route is cancelled there is not enough feeding anymore to send a A330 every day to BRU from MAA. It is cheaper to send those passengers to BOM or DEL and then to BRU. Plus the current economic situation in aviation in India is not helping also.

Maybe we will see some more 77W in BRU now....

Can be that it was already posted somewhere but Brussels Airlines is also going to cut in Africa.

Today they confirmed that Bamako will be not longer in their timetable.

I knew they would cut their AFI network (combination of keeping at least one A330 free for cabin refurbishment/maintenance and 'regular' lower frequency in winter season). But I didn't knew about Bamako... This route started about one year ago...that one didn't last very long then...
Seems that even long haul operations have difficulties with the high fuel (and personnel) costs in the low winter season...

From a travel agent

Brussels Airlines to terminate its route to Mali
Bamako-Brussels 03 October 2012 -- Brussels Airlines confirms that it will terminate its Brussels-Bamako service on the 7th of January 2012. This decision is the result of a market & route review.
The challenging political situation in Mali resulting in a negative travel advise in several countries and in a non- satisfactory route performance, have led Brussels Airlines to terminate its service to and from Mali in January 2012. “We sincerely hope that, when market conditions have improved again, we can resume our Brussels-Bamako service”, says Brussels Airlines Vice President Africa Herman Carpentier. “We regret that we are forced to take this decision.”
Brussels Airlines will continue operating its weekly Monday flight till January 7. All flights during this period are open for bookings.
Passengers who have booked a flight after this date are entitled to a full refund or an alternative flight solution.
Brussels Airlines regrets any inconvenience caused and wishes to thank all passengers who used the Brussels-Bamako service.

I guess its due to the civil war? Half the country has seceded from the rest and introduced the sharia, leading to a negative travel advice from most countries to go there.... It isnt exactly the country I'd do business in either?
Mali seems to become west-Africa's Somalia!

Is this the reason they are cutting (suspending?) this route? Or is it just not performing well? Have other airlines suspended their operations into BKO as well? I thought they needed more long-haul, not less. Sad, but they must have their reasons.
Unfortunately, a lot of bad news on SN lately (also cutting Warsaw, not starting Mombasa). The only good news seems to be their JFK flights.
Does anyone know whether they will use these frequencies to keep 1 or 2 frequencies they had planned to suspend this winter?

I tought they operated 2 weekly BKO, but that may have changed already (or only 1 weekly planned for this winter)?
At least it's good news for ROB, 4 weekly offers already a much better flexibility than only 3 weekly.

FR woul only keep leisure destinations from CRL,Aer Lingus would focus from BRU on feeding the long haul routes from DUB and on European business cities. This would probably kill SN.

Do you think that LH will allow this without reacting? They could for example set up a Germanwings type of operations out of Brussels. The Chairman of LH said today that he is not yet ready to take over the 55% of SN that LH does not own, but he considers SN as already being a part of the LH group.

A new Lithuanian airline plans to launch operations next year and establish itself as the Baltic nation’s flag carrier. Air Lituanica plans to introduce flights during 2013 and succeed with previous national entities Lithuanian Airlines and flyLAL have failed by establishing a sustainable network of routes from the Lithuanian capital Vilnius and its second city Kaunus.

Air Lituanica hopes to overcome the problems of its predecessors and help establish new air services in the country. The airline will be partly supported by the State with the Vilnius City Municipality holding a 34 per cent shareholding, although a local strategic investor will hold a controlling 49 per cent equity stake. The remaining 17 per cent of the airline will be split between Lithuanian businesses, enterprises and individual private investors.

The start-up plans to initially operate to six destinations with flights from Vilnius and Kaunus. These comprise the western resort town of Palanga and international services to Amsterdam, Brussels, Kiev, London and Moscow. In 2014, there are plans to add flights to Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, St Petersburg, Stockholm and Tbilisi, while Istanbul is on the radar for 2015.

As already known SN will reduce Entebbe from 4/week to 3/week (that's every winter I believe) and Kigali will increase to 4/week (in turn of Mombassa). But now it's also mentioned that as from late-december 2012 the frequency will increase again, to 5/week, operated by refurbished A330's (currently it's with the A332's I believe who still have an old interior). Is this a temporary increase for the winter holidays, or is it planned as permanent?
