Re: Strikes affecting Belgian airports in 2016

Post by DIBO »

JAF's OO-JVA's flights in/out ANR (and later this night the final sector to OST) running late all day (last flight to ANR arriving 4hrs late - cumulative delay from each sector). Now they have to hurry and hope for no more French ATC delays, to get out of ANR before closing time (=23:00 LT).

Edit: last flight out of ANR is repositioning to OST i.o. final BCN sector. So in the end, probably a lot of unhappy passenger (repositioned by bus to BRU/OST???) although only 'limited' 20-40min. delays caused by this action

It seems they got out at 22.37 hrs and are on their way to BCN ?? or OST?.
What is the normal closing time in ANR? 22.00 hrs or 23.00 hrs?

Will this plane still leave today, after 22:00, or is the airport only permitted to allow flights up to a certain time?
The aircraft (OO-JVA) left round 22:30, but it seems to be heading to Ostend, probably to get ready for the flights of tomorrow...

As per FR24, it seems OO-JVA went to OST and not to BCN. Cancellation of the ANR-BCN-OST flights? or in a holding position until they get clearance to continue to BCN and back? (with crewchange + refueling?)

A JAF 737-700 is on his way from BRU to BCN right now, on board the pax from ANR.

BCN-OST will be operated by a 737-700 as well

OK. That's the way how JAF is solving it.

Job well done by JAF
If I look at CRL's arrivals, 3/3 JAF flights delayed but still scheduled, but.... the 'other' airline (which we don't name) 6/11 cancellations

Well, if you only do three flights you're not dependent on a turn around to get more flights out and as you can make a crewmember fly up to 15 hrs in extreme situations you can take some delay. When you are dependent on a turn around you can only make your crew fly maximum 13 hrs and if there are then slots issued which are 4-5 hours after scheduled departure ... Well, you do the math. Maybe learn a bit about airline operations before you make comments that make no sense ;)

Brussels Airport release 27/3:

In the past few days, Brussels Airport has made an extensive analysis of the terminal infrastructure and of the various possible scenarios for a partial recommencement of its activities. When this partial restart will take place is not yet decided. That depends on the various processes that have to be restarted. The simple fact is that a restart in the short term is not possible in the devastated infrastructure.

The radar of CRL is currently broken.
I'm on the flight to RAK, and already waiting for almost an hour on the tarmac. Incoming flights are diverted.
Hopefully it gets fixed quickly. It's not the good moment to have another airport closed...

Thanks!
It seems to be fixed since 5 minutes. Captain told that queue for takeoff is now around 30 min.
Airport was max 90 minutes closed, so the damage won't be too bad. Just 2 incoming flights diverted to LIL.

How desperate (or how) stupid can one be? Since 22th March, both the local and international press announce a severe check of all luggage at all Belgian airports. Yet a Dutch male citizen (32) flew from Faro to Ostend Airport yesterday with 2 kgs cocaine in his luggage (street value 100.000 €). Result: a one way ticket to Bruges' prison.

Are there extra checks upon arrival aswell? Or got Ostend airport Customs tipped by someone?

There really is no ground for such WOW statement. Actually, the correct quote was not BRUSSELS ACC CLSD DUE TO STAFF SHORTAGE as you state, but this message:
NOTAM just released, Brussels FIR closed from 02.00 to 04.00L.
A0981/16
From:11 APR 16 00:00 Till:11 APR 16 02:00
Text:BRUSSELS ACC CLSD DUE TO STAFF SHORTAGE. EMERG FREQ ARE WATCHED.
When the above Notam was posted, I've checked all flights on BrusselsAirport.be:

number of scheduled arriving flights (passengers) 1 hour before <-> 1 hour after the closure: zero.
number of scheduled arriving flights (cargo) 1 hour before <-> 1 hour after the closure: zero.
number of scheduled departing flights (passengers) 1 hours before <-> 1 hour after the closure: zero.
number of scheduled departing flights (cargo) 1 hours before <-> 1 hour after the closure: zero.

Not one single flight was cancelled, delayed. Not one single flight had to divert or hold.
