Problem with SNBA A330-300 in Africa?

Post by blackhawk »

It seems one of their 333 has gone technical in Afrika:

(arrivals)
11/08 06:00 Conakry SN 206 Cancelled 06:00
via Dakar

because of this:

(departures)
11/08 12:35 Banjul SN 1203 A319!
via Dakar

Seems like some passengers will remain stranded... My sister was supposed to leave to Banjul today, and she was told by SNBA there would be a 24 hours delay...

Last time this happened 2 A319 flew to Africa to bring and pickup the passengers.

Let's hope SN can repaire the plane within a short periode of time.

The OO-SFN is standing in Dakar with a technical problem. SNBA is now taking a A319, OO-SSK, to operate the flight SN1203 to Banjul - Dakar. (86 pax)

SN1204 arrives tommorow morning at 0430 LT. They will make a stop-over at Cassablanca.

Here we go again!
blackhawk wrote:(departures)

and also:

11/08 11:35 Banjul via Dakar AA 7813 A333 cancelled
11/08 11:35 Banjul via Dakar SN 203 A333 cancelled

But apparently SN has find a quick response to the problem. Good that the load factor of this particular flight wasn't too high!

With this case of figure, why SNBA didn't choose an Airbus A319ER activity for some new african destinations? (like AF) or an Airbus based in africa for connecting?
I think SN need a franchise in africa if they don't want to expand with their own fleet (like BA/regional/comair)

André: please do note that the figure of 68 passengers only contains the business class pax + the connecting pax.

Some people for example did not have a visum, so they could not be put in a hotel. That's why certain passengers got priority, and were able to fly the weight restricted A319.

More than 200 people are put in hotels, both in Africa as in Brussels.

It's all about making money. SN should have to create a big feeder market to feed an Airbus based in Africa. Something like IB is doing in MIA (although they will close their MIA-hub) is impossible for SN in Africa.

SN will maintain their 3 A333's, as an additional aircraft would cost way too much. Problems like this have occured in the past, and will likely happen again in the future.

This morning's arrivals:

12/08 04:30 Banjul via Casablanca SN 1204 Image 04:55 A319

12/08 06:00 Dakar AA 7814 Image
12/08 06:00 Dakar SN 204 Image
12/08 06:00 Dakar SN 206 Image 05:34 A333

12/08 06:10 Casablanca AA 7755 Image 06:05 A319
12/08 06:10 Casablanca AT 830 Image 06:05 A319
12/08 06:10 Casablanca SN 3854 Image 06:05 A319

Hence, the 333 stranded in Dakar has come back safely.

Today, all three 333s are scheduled to depart to Africa.

Let's hope the problem will be solved soon.

Isn't that due to the fact that the A319 is weight restricted if it wants to lfy to Dakar without a fuel stop ???

Anyway, it's nice to see that SN had a backup plan, but the A319's have also a lot of work to do on the medium range flights. Wouldn't it be better if SN would aquire 1 or 2 additional A319's to have a better backup system in case on A330 has a problem ? And weren't there some agreements with RAM in case there is a problem with an A330 ????

i think its better to switch to the a330-200 ( there are plenty a330-200 for second hand sales ) Or, send some good maintance staff to africa, even KLM and Martinair have a maintance base at Nairobi........

Why would this be better? SN doesn't need the range of the A332, + the A333 is able to transport more pax and cargo.
there are plenty a330-200 for second hand sales
Please quote me those plenty A332's on the second hand market, because as far as I know, no A332's are stored (except an AF and maybe 1 or 2 others if I'm not mistaken).
Or, send some good maintance staff to africa, even KLM and Martinair have a maintance base at Nairobi........
Set up a maintenance base for 3 A333's? Nice initiative... if all SN flights to Africa would be full with pax paying First Class-tickets, but otherwise totally unrealistic.
