2004 10 - general info request BRU

Post by Established02 »

- During the summer months there have been major maintenance works taking place on the BRU run- and taxiways. It was stated that at a certain stage of the works, there might be a possibility of having (visual) 07L landings. Did this actually happen? Probably not.

- What is the nature of the Kalitta operations at BRU? What does their cargo mainly consist of? As there are already up to 9 carriers (SV, SQ, OZ, KE, CO, AA, DL, BG, DHL) offering cargo space between BRU and New York, it is rather surprising to see how another carrier appeared on this route with multiple 747F flights a week.

- I noticed that DHL/EAT is modifying hangar 2-3, by creating a second bay to fully accomodate the A300. This investment seems to indicate that EAT is confident about their future operations at BRU.

- An obvious result of the runway works is that the ILS of RWY25R has been relocated 500 meters further. Previously it was mentioned -on this website- that another development might be that the staff parking lot (nr.?) would be relocated as well in order to create more ramp space for cargo aircraft . Is this project still in the pipeline?

Thank you for any feedback. :D

SQC flts to JFK have been rerouted thru AMS.

BRU only has inbound SQC flights ex USA (LAX, ORD and JFK).
Schedules are subject to change as we will have winterschedule effective next month.

BBC has almost no cargo offer ex BRU (both ways).

Rumours still go that cargo apron will be re-instated. This means staff-carpark will be relocated. (beware : RUMOURS)

- The Kalitta flights are in cooperation with Lufthansa Cargo and DHL. What they carry with them, never saw it.

- 07L landings don't happens much. I've seen maybe 5 or 6 landings on this runway in the 5,5 years I work at the airport.
The biggest one I've seen was the 737-400 Olympic Airways that returned to do an emergencylanding.

- Like 744rules already said, there are only rumours that the parkinglot will be removed.
The planning was that if the cargo traffic increases again than it will be removed. But for the moment, and in normal situations, we have still enough places to park every aircraft at Brucargo.

Visual landings on 07L where 'normal procedures' back 6 years ago. But once a pilot had to perform a go-around on 07L and turned right into the landing traffic on 02. Barely missed an American airplane, near-miss in aviation terms. For information: at that time there was no procedure for a go-around on visual 07L.

I still remember the images in the old DAT-crewroom, a few 'markers' like turn left over the railwaystation, then look for the church of Diegem then land the plane on 07L ;) Unfortunately the visual landings on 07L where suspended after the near-miss.

Besides do you remember the incident with a police Cessna crashing after visual landing on 07L ?

All depends on the Singapore Airlines Cargo plans to expand in EBBR, no further info.
