"State" aid? It has been rightly pointed out that Brussels Airport is a private independent commercial operator. At least in theory

Re: Crashes and serious incidents/accidents in 2019
Never ceases to bewilder me how certain countries seem to be inviting disasters like this by allowing housing so nearby, and on the runway axis. Quite common in Africa, but Californians are good at it, too. Accidents waiting to happen, sadly.

Re: Alitalia near bankruptcy. Can it be saved?
The Italian taxpayer is rich but not indefinitely That touches on politics, sadly but unavoidably. In Italy like in certain other countries, there is a marked separation between richer areas, that bring in the majority of tax money (and, hence, have their own ideas about how and where tax money sho...

Indeed. The Pope is on a state visit (not to say "on a trip" ), or there's an earthquake somewhere, or the funghi are late on season, or the prime minister's dog is having a litter... Always an explanation.

Re: 2019 Liège Airport (LGG/EBLG) latest news
I don't think there's much use in calling people names, either way. "Idiots"? "Ridiculous"? Then again, while keeping things polite, I too have my questions about the additional cost and hassle of two stops so very close by.

What is "aviation"?
This website and forum so frantically claiming to be about "aviation", I have more than once questioned how the "aviation" bit was to be interpreted. Here's some extra food for thought, gratefully copied from the - ever retrospective! - chickenwingscomics.com : See, this is the s...

Sure, but it does help to fly a fixed-gear plane In all seriousness, though, you are of course entirely right.you cannot count on a 2nd invisible pilot to cross check your gear is extended, right?

Re: Trivia 2019 (miscellaneous news)
always crosscheck your actions Ha! That's easy to say if you're always two in the cockpit ;) ! Too much cross-checking one's self can lead to nasty damage to the brain, so my AME warned me .... (AME: "aviation medical examiner", the doctor who delivers one's medical "fit to fly"...

Re: Trivia 2019 (miscellaneous news)
Mooohahaha! if that was the case, really, the messages can well remain in the "trivia" thread. And of course it is all too cheap too ridicule others' errors, still this poor amateur pilot has well learned the lesson to first "standby" the transponder, then set the new squawk, the...

False hi-jacking alarm on an Air Europa Airbus A330 at Amsterdam Schiphol
hm, can we still classify this story under the "trivia"? It seems that the captian of the flight (UX1094, Air Europa) used the hijack code (code500). (and, if some gentle degree of notpocking may be allowed, instead of "code 500" perhaps "squawk 7500" would be clearer/m...

I will continue to insist on good manners , "n'en déplaise qui veult". If @Darjeeling and yourself could post properly, why cannot a moderator, even if perhaps an apprentice? And no, insisting on proper manners is not nitpicking. And may I request you to stop sounding like a broken vinyl r...

The brand name "Thomas Cook", and associated www url's and licenses, acquired from the liquidators by Chinese Fosun Tourism Group for a tidy 12+ million €. There must be a lot of cash around there. Source (in Dutch): https://www.vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2019/11/01/chinezen-kopen-merknaam-thomas-co...

Re: Air Belgium in 2019
Allow me to (again) insist on avoiding unexplained codes and abbreviations. It takes a mere TWO keystrokes more to type the airline's name in full - as others neatly did - how lazy can one be??

Re: Cruise speed vs top of descent
:) thank you! If I wish to descend rapidly - which is standard practice under certain conditions - a sideslip is the standard answer. Which will indeed increase drag dramatically, while at the same time reducing wing efficiency, thus reducing lift. And I absolutely love side-slipping! But I can imag...

Indeed right to put things into perspective, and to compare with the only more or less comparable country, at least in Europe, that is Switzerland. And also right that there are more important issues, at least for now, and probably for a long time after. @Passenger: thanks for pointing out the excep...

Re: Brussels Airlines in 2019
So typical of certain Belgians, especially in Brussels: when federalisation suits them, they'll use all of it, as in the case of the Brussels noise regulation. When they find it less convenient, they'll cry murder.
NB the remark about Frau Foerster is quite relevant, though!
