BRU 12th September (Some Photos)

Post by Comet »

Here is my account of 12th September spotting.

We caught the 08:57 train from Brugge to Leuven, where we were met by Ray and Tony, who drove us to the end of runway 25L. We walked to the refugee centre, where it was windy as hell!! I saw my first Alitalia ERJ170, Airbuses of Iberia, an American Airlines Boeing 767 going for take off.

We met Sabena_690 near the refugee centre.

Whilst we were having our sandwiches (imagine how damned near impossible it is to spread cheese spread across bread in a strong wind whilst you are balancing a video camera and a camera  ) the DC10 of Bangladesh landed, and I was able to video my first of this type, and my first of this airline, so I was pleased with that.

The worst happened when the Air Dolomiti CRJ appeared. I was about to get my first photo and video of this airline when the police arrived, so I put my camera away. There is more detail about this in another thread. Before we left the refugee centre I also saw the Hewa Bora TriStar and a Korean Cargo 747.

Eva Air Cargo MD11 on approach. Now you know why I am a video specialist when it comes to final approach, I never have problems getting the whole aircraft into the video screen! I tried to get other aircraft on photos, but VC10 was getting mad because I was missing out on video when I was taking the photos

A highlight of the spot was standing on top of the junction box to video the approach and touch down of the Algerian 727, that is quite a sight! The German VIP Airbus was also a nice catch.

I was also pleased to get some great video of the Kalitta Boeing 747 (my first of the airline) and my first DHL landing shots. The Singapore Airlines Cargo arrived just after we left, but I managed to bag them on 16th.

Other Luchtzak members we saw on the spot were Apuneger, BieleAlbatrosy, Vonsmalhausen and MD-11 and his wife, when he gave us the beautiful Yorkshire jet drawing.

We left the spot at 14:00 to have a drink at the Jumbo Cafe. Then we caught the 14:52 train from Kortenberg to Brussels Noord and then 15:26 train from Brussels Noord to the Airport (pity there is no easy way by train from Kortenberg to the Airport when it is so close  ) We stood in the arrivals hall at BRU for ages to say hello to sn26567 and his wife after his arrival from Munich because he had not been able to attend the spot.

All in all it was a superb day, and thanks again to everyone concerned

It only takes 10 minutes by car from the water tower to the terminal - you should have asked for a lift!

I certainly do NOT recall "getting mad"!!!

I mentioned that I like to watch the videos, which I always do, but "get mad"? I don't think so!!!

I would also like to add my thanks to every body who helped make this a really fun Sunday.

Pity the very short video shot of the 727 isn't going on - that was a brilliant piece of filming! (Thanks to Frederic for showing us the best place for such shots.)

Just a small remark about a Luchtzak rule: all reports for one spotting day should be kept under one thread! There were already other threads open for 12 September!

A railway track is under construction, as you probably have seen while travelling to the airport by train. And it is not always necessary to backtrack all the way to Brussels North. Some trains to the airport stop at Zaventem centrum as well.
We stood in the arrivals hall at BRU for ages to say hello to sn26567 and his wife after his arrival from Munich
Thanks for that! It was a nice touch!

And I don't see you complaining about any of them!! So why this one?
